Lent group 2009

USPG - The Daily Mission

Christ the Servant and St Thomas the Martyr joined forces for the Lent group this year. Both churches ran discussion groups over five weeks, following the USPG Bible study "The Daily Mission".

Mission is what God is doing in the world today and the course helped us to reflect on passages from St Luke's Gospel which all hinged on the word "TODAY". It also encouraged us to reflect on some very important global issues.

Session 1

God announces a new beginning - Luke 3:15-22

Country focus - Mozambique

Session 2

Jesus proclaims gospel manifesto - Luke 4:16-21

Country focus - Philippines

Session 3

Jesus in miracle healing sensation - Luke 5:17-26

Country focus - Zambia

Session 4

Jesus challenges our priorities - Luke 19:1-10

Country focus - Amazon

Session 5

Jesus calls us to live the gospel today - Luke 23:39-43

Country focus - Africa

On week 6 the two groups joined together for reflection, food and worship with a global perspective. Five prayer stations were created to reflect the themes of each session and they helped us to focus on the issues raised, such as fair trade and the plight of asylum seekers. You can see photos of the stations here.

Everyone involved said the six weeks had been very thought provoking and had enabled us to understand more of the issues that face other people around the world.
