GRAND BAND DAY OUT

On the 14th May Christ the Servant Brigade marching band went to Hinckley for the national band competition. We met at 5.30pm at Christ the Servant to travel to the competition . All in all there was sixteen of us in four cars.  Everyone was excited, and slightly nervous, even those who weren’t doing the actual display.

We arrived at Hinckley sports centre at approximately 8.00pm and called our mentor Major Jeff Holder of the Hinckley Company.  We followed him to St Mary’s Church Hall and there was such a buzz as St Mary’s band were cleaning instruments, shoes and ironing uniforms.

At 6.30am the next day we were up. St Mary’s made us breakfast ready for the big event.

Christ the Servant were on at 11.00am, the nerves were reaching fever point, a few more spectators came down for the day to support us (which we were really grateful for).  At 10.15am all of the band were ready in their uniforms for the inspection which seemed to take forever.

Then at 11.00am we went on. I was in tears all the time the band were on the display ground, I felt so proud they performed the routine amazingly and then marched out for a well deserved rest.

At 5pm every band that entered fell in on the display ground. The whole band got first place in the inspection. Hannah Givens got first place in the Drum Major category. They got a 2nd for General music effect and the wind section. They got a third for display, drill, bell lyre’s, percussion and came third overall.

All in all a very very productive and emotional day.
