2007 Conker Championships

Sunday 21st October 2007.

The above date will go down into the history books as far as Christ The Servant history anyway.

Why? Read on....

We all came to Church for Janet's first Harvest festival service and we all now know that the kids are much better than we are at word searches!

With the service out of the way we all went to the vicarage for afternoon tea and coffee and cakes, the cakes were the best and an official welcoming from Janet and Janet's mum (who we all now know as Phyllis).

Now about Janet's mum, she makes a fine cup of tea or coffee but whatever you do don't try and help her wash up or make the tea because you might feel the back of her wet tea towel!

There where a large number of the congregation turned up and it was a beautiful afternoon. Stacey then said “Is the chestnut tree still in the garden because we haven't played conkers for years!”. Well that was the start of the Christ The Servant 2007 Conker Championships.

This then turned into a fierce competition between children and adults. Who do you think won?

It was nip and tuck all afternoon I ended up getting beat towards the end, we can't be good at everything can we! Janet ended up with severe bruising on her wrist from all the misses that she attempted. We think it was a miss but we were not sure if her competitor kept moving her conker on her just as she was going for the kill.

It was hotting up and Janet ended up getting beat by the eventual winner of the competition. This was not her fault as she handed her conker over the Alison Woods while Janet went in for a well earned cup of her mums coffee. Alison then went against her own daughter, Kathryn. We think that Alison helped Kathryn because shortly after she went up against her Alison was beat and Kathryn moved onto the next victim.

By this time Kathryn was knocking everything out of her way and all fell to the wayside as Kathryn 'Killer Conker' Woods as she was known by this time was unbeatable.

It came to the final and Kathryn was up against stiff opposition. But all to soon the next competitor fell and victorious with her unbeatable Conker the first champion of the 2007 CTS Conker Championships was Kathryn Woods aged 10.

Everyone had a marvellous afternoon and we would all like to welcome Janet & Phyllis to our Parish and we can't wait for the 2008 championships. Kathryn I am going to keep practising and next year you just wait!! We will however have some rules drawn up for next year and of course a health & safety risk assessment!
